How do you prevent preconception iron deficiency?

Anemia in pregnancy has a negative impact on the growth and development of the baby and poses significant risks to the mother. Iron deficiency anemia (IDA), the most common cause of anemia in the reproductive years, should be evaluated as early as the preconception period in order to initiate early management. Prompt recognition of symptoms and timely supplementation may prevent progression of anemia to more severe forms, which are detrimental to the health of the woman and potentially her offspring.
